MUSIC fans from Helensburgh have appeared in a BBC documentary about an “outstanding young pianist” which was filmed in the town.

Members of the Helensburgh Music Society have featured in 'Ethan Loch: Making Music Talk' which profiles the acclaimed Scottish musician as part of the BBC's Culture Scene series.

Part of the programme was shot during Ethan’s concert in the Helensbrugh and Lomond Civic Centre which took place on Sunday, January 28 and was hosted by the society.

A spokesperson for the society said: “Those who attended the Helensburgh Music Society concert featuring the outstanding young pianist, Ethan Loch, must feel privileged at having been a part of what was altogether a magical evening.

“BBC Scotland sent a film crew to record the event as part of a documentary about Ethan, winner of the keyboard final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year.

“That 30-minute documentary has just been released on iPlayer and is a fascinating and touching synopsis of Ethan's musical journey this far.

“The HLCC and Helensburgh Music Society feature prominently, in what is a tremendously uplifting programme.”

Ethan was born blind, and at just 20 years old he has won numerous awards such as the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2024 (keyboardist), Scottish International Youth Piano Competition (2019), and the Premio Asoluto prize at the 15th International 'Giuseppe Sciacca' awards (2016).

He currently studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

'Ethan Loch: Making Music Talk' will air on BBC Scotland on Saturday, March 16 at 11.20pm and is currently available to watch on the BBC iPlayer at www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001x9tj.
