A Helensburgh group will host a talk giving an insight into the life and work of an air traffic controller.
During the Helensburgh and District u3a’s upcoming presentation, member and former airport system engineer Bob Sharp will give a talk on his career at the Helensburgh Church Halls on Friday, March 15 at 11am.
The event will give an overview of the organisations involved in air traffic control and air traffic management, an overview of UK Airspace, and a behind the scenes look into engineering architecture.
Bob worked as an operational ATC engineer after training at Bletchley Park and the Federal Aviation Administration Academy in Oklahoma City in the US.
He then worked as a system engineer, designing and integrating elements of new air traffic control centres.
He finished his career as a member of the Single European Sky Air Traffic Management Research Programme [SESAR] - a European Commission programme designed to harmonise the use of European airspace.
Attendees will be able to enjoy a free coffee from 10.40am with entry costing £2.
The talk is exclusive to members who will receive an email about the event.
The u3a is aimed at people who are retired or semi-retired and offers access to talks and events.
Those who wish to join can find out more on the u3a’s website: www.u3asites.org.uk/helensburgh.
