A Helensburgh woman says she's “thrilled” to have received a prize at a prestigious awards ceremony honouring the Glasgow area’s best bars.
Aimee Ashworth, bar lead at La Jupe on West Clyde Street, was crowned the ‘Unsung Hero’ of the Glasgow Bar Awards on Monday, February 12 during the award ceremony in Glasgow’s St Luke’s.
The award recognises hard work which often goes unseen and was voted on by the public.
Aimee, who was nominated by manager Siobhan McKay, said: “I’m thrilled for us and so proud to be part of such a great supportive team.
“It was an amazing feeling to see our name up there with big Glasgow bars that typically have more reach than a smaller local business like we are do.
“But I must thank Siobhan, she is just as deserving of the award, and I wouldn’t have even placed without her efforts to rally for votes!
“And a huge thank you to all our amazing customers and anyone who voted.”
Siobhan said she was delighted for Aimee, praising her skills and what she brings to the team.
She said: “I am so insanely proud of Aimee. Watching her blossom at La Jupe over the past two years has been such a pleasure.
“She is going places and we are so lucky to have her on board and bringing her amazing creativity to the bar.
"She is a big part of what makes La Jupe amazing.
“It was a great night seeing hospitality come together and celebrate our hard work and passion in the industry.
“Hopefully nights like this will continue and these deserving people continue to be recognised in such an overlooked profession.”
The La Jupe team were also shortlisted for three other awards at the ceremony, including best drink, with their ‘Balche Anann’ up for nomination, best bar team, and best shake.
Owner Phil Luckett said: “Being in the top six for three awards was amazing for La Jupe. Siobhan has worked very hard to get here.
“And Aimée getting industry recognition for how talented she is has been long overdue.
“I'm so proud of our wee bar! What a fun night for hospitality.”
Later this month, La Jupe will host their Jazz Sunday event on February 25 and a wine tasting session on Thursday, February 29.
