A Helensburgh musical theatre group is gearing up for a spring show marking their 40th anniversary and celebrating their previous productions.

Rehearsals are under way for Helensburgh Savoy Musical Theatre Group’s cabaret concert ‘Mad About Musicals’, which will take place on Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27 at the town's Victoria Halls.

The group was founded in 1984 and will treat guests to a programme filled with songs from hit musicals such as Sister Act, 9 to 5, and The Kind and I.

Director Euan Forrest said: "With a big anniversary such as this, we really wanted to celebrate the club's history.

“With this in mind, we'll be featuring a particularly well-known Gilbert and Sullivan number in recognition of the club’s original focus on their comedic operettas.

“The concert will also feature songs from each of the seventeen different musicals that the club has produced over the years.

“So expect to hear songs from more recent shows such as Sunshine on Leith, 9 to 5, and Sister Act, mixed in with ones from the likes of Oliver!, Fiddler on the Roof, and The King and I.

"Added to this there will also be a selection of songs themed around 'Showbusiness' and 'Magic'.”

The group are calling on past members to get in touch if they would like to be involved in the performance.

Euan added: "We would also particularly like to put out an open call to any and all past members of Savoy to invite them to sing alongside the current membership for a couple of songs in the concert.

“They're invited to take part in one or both performances, whatever suits, as additional chorus."

Due to both last year’s performances selling out, the club have decided that in addition to the main table seating downstairs, they will also be selling balcony tickets this year.

On Friday, May 31, the Savoy will be hosting their charity variety show Variety at the Vic - introduced last year as a revamp of their previous event, Sing For Your Supper.

Last year's event raised £1,350 for local mental health and wellbeing group Jean's Bothy with this year’s designated charity to be announced soon.

The club also recently announced that their autumn 2024 show will be Disney's Beauty and the Beast which will run from the November 6 to November 9, 2024, with tickets available from May.
