A SPECIAL open day is being held in Helensburgh this week in a bid to recruit people who can help others cope with the financial challenges in their lives.

The Argyll and Bute Citizens Advice Bureau (ABCAB) is recruiting new advisers who can provide confidential, free and impartial advice to people living in Argyll and Bute,

The open day will take place in room 5 at the Helensburgh Community Hub on East Princes Street on Wednesday, December 13 from 11am until 3pm.

The deadline for applications to join the ABCAB team is December 20, and training will be provided for all the new recruits in January.

ABCAB manager Jen Broadhurst said: "Our volunteer advisers are at the heart of our community-based service. We welcome caring, reliable individuals to join us in the new year."

The  charity depends on volunteer advisers to help residents understand their rights and responsibilities.

They can help with issues such as debt management, housing concerns, consumer disputes and more.

No qualifications are required but applications "should have a non-judgemental attitude, keen listening abilities and a desire to advocate for others", the charity says.

Training on policies, procedures and local resources will get advisers ready to help anyone to contacts the bureau.
