Seven “incredible” Helensburgh community groups will be receiving their share of more than £30,000 in funding from a national scheme.

The Co-op’s Local Community Fund is donating a total of £30,653.60 to organisations in the area - thanks to Co-op members who shop in the Helensburgh store.

By just scanning or swiping their membership cards when buying own-brand products, residents can help the fund grow to benefit the town's groups.

The director of community and member participation at Co-op, Rebecca Birkbeck, said: “We’re really proud of our Local Community Fund and the impact it’s had supporting thousands of local causes across the UK.

“These groups deliver incredible grassroot projects, enabling them to provide important services, support and activities for their diverse communities.”

Dumbarton District Women's Aid received £6,215.17; Fun First received £4,721.21; Helensburgh Amateur Swimming Club received £4,929.33; Jean's Bothy received £5,842.61; Garelochhead Station Trust received £2,383.68; Helensburgh Lifeboat Station received £3,453.57; Garelochhead and Rosneath Peninsula Community Responders received £3,108.03.

Co-op’s Local Community Fund has supported over 36,000 local community projects across the UK since it launched in 2016.

This Christmas, Co-op members and customers can provide additional support to community causes by donating their Member rewards balance via the Co-op app.

From next week, members and customers can also donate to community groups in Co-op stores across the country with the company pledging to match the donations up to £1,000,000.

The Local Community Fund supports causes and community projects that have an impact and made a difference locally, while aligning with Co-op’s values.

These values focus on bringing people together to access food; helping to improve mental wellbeing; creating opportunities for young people to be heard and make a difference; enabling communities to save and restore nature or tackle climate change.
