People of Helensburgh are invited to 'join the revolution' as the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival hosts an event in town.

The biggest event of its kind in the world, the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival 2023, led by the Mental Health Foundation, is exploring the theme of 'revolution'.

In the midst of political and economic turbulence, the festival will confront the impact of economic barriers and social inequality on mental health, and ask ‘how we can do things differently?’

The theme will be explored in creative ways through music, film, theatre, art and other events across Scotland, including many events programmed by community groups and community-focused organisations, reflecting the festival’s ‘grassroots up’ approach.

The diverse programme includes more than 180 events, many of them free to attend, across Scotland, including a one-night-only event in Helensburgh.

Jean's Bothy will have an exhibition called 'See Us, Hear Us' taking place in the Submarine Centre on Friday, October 20 from 6pm-8pm.

A collection of paintings, a digital photography display and performances by members who have written pieces or songs will be available.

The Writing for Wellbeing Group has created an 80-page book called "Revolution" which contains stories, poems, songs, artwork and photography.  Copies will be on sale for £5 (cash only) on the night.

Katrina Sayer, Jean's Bothy Development manager, said: "This is an opportunity for our members to illustrate their response to the theme, Revolution, which has been interpreted in a number of different ways.

"We would love to see you along at the Submarine Centre for this fantastic display.

"The doors will open at 6pm but please feel free to come along any time between then and 8pm. Refreshments will be available too."
