A series of annual talks hosted by a literary society and focusing on a “wide range” of topics is kicking off in Cove this week.

The Cove and Kilcreggan Literary Society’s latest series of talks covering science, culture and social issues will begin on Monday, October 2 with each talk being held in Cove Burgh Hall.

Al Fleming will deliver the talk ‘Blairskaith Junkers. The German Bomber that Crash-landed near Lennoxtown’ at the hall from 8-10pm, with doors opening at 7.30pm.

The series will continue until March 2024 with talks scheduled for every second Monday.

January 22: Mike Thornley, 'Frank Kingdon Ward – Plant Hunter, Explorer and Write'

February 5: Marion Maudsley, 'Ladies Displayed on Scottish Banknotes'

February 19: Heather and Jennifer Craig, 'Being a Vet; it’s a Way of Life'

March 4: Ian Nicolson and Alasdair Reynolds, 'Classic Films: The Tobermory Race and Cruising on the Clyde'

A spokesperson from the group said: “The Cove and Kilcreggan Literary Society has speakers invited to give talks on a wide range of social, scientific and cultural topics.

“Each talk is followed by a prize draw plus tea and biscuits and a great chance to catch up with other members.”

Tea and biscuits will be served, and a prize raffle will be held at each event.

The new season's programme also includes a Christmas party in December and a quiz night and AGM to bring the season to a close in March.

Membership costs £20 per season and allows entry to each talk free of charge, but guests are welcome with tickets costing at £3 per evening.
