YOUNG volunteers in Helensburgh were handed a royal appointment recently as they showed they were fit for a king.

The town's Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV) was set up earlier this year, and its members were asked to attend the recent Honours of Scotland presented to King Charles III.

The youngsters were on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh supporting police before getting a prime spot for the occasion.

PC Mark Toner told the Advertiser: "The PSYV group from Helensburgh volunteered at the Royal Mile in Edinburgh where His Majesty King Charles III was presented with the Honours of Scotland.

"The youths taking part supported officers from Police Scotland with various duties before taking up a front row spot to watch the ceremony.

"The youths were able to gain an insight into the policing of a major event whilst improving their confidence and communication skills.

"Due to the high demand of youths within our group wishing to attend, names were chosen at random."
