A Helensburgh drama group is celebrating the successful return of its variety show which showcased a range of local talent.
Helensburgh Savoy Musical Theatre Group welcomed back its ‘Variety At The Vic’ show – formerly known as ‘Sing For Your Supper’ – on Friday, June 2 at the Victoria Halls after a four year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The show featured 12 acts and over 140 performers including the Helensburgh Strings Junior Ensemble and Stringbabies, the Dorian Choir, and Claire Burns School of Dance.
A group representative said: “Variety At The Vic, formerly known as Sing For Your Supper, returned to the stage last Friday for the first time since 2019.
“The event was a great success and showcased the wide variety of talented performance groups across the local area.
“Over 140 performers took part during the evening, with some putting in turns with multiple groups, providing entertainment to an audience of 240.
“Savoy would like to thank the audience and performing groups for their generosity and support for this returning event.”
The show featured performances by: The Oratorio Choir; the Helensburgh Strings Junior Ensemble and Stringbabies; Margaret Rose School of Dance; The Peaton Pealers; Hermitage Academy Poetry By Heart Club; Dorian Choir; Helensburgh and Lomond fiddlers; Lomond and Clyde Community Orchestra; the Peninsula Choir; Claire Burns School of Dance; Tartan Harmony; and the Savoy group.
As well as showcasing local talent, the event raised more than £1,000 for Helensburgh-based mental health charity Jean’s Bothy.
The representative added: “An amazing sum of £1,350 will be donated to the charity, through the generosity of the participants and the audience.”
The group is currently working on its winter production of Sunshine on Leith which is set to be performed between November 8 and 11.
Last week, the club announced that it had appointed the show’s director Michael Doyle in what will be his first time working with the group.
Auditions for main roles will be held this weekend on Sunday, June 18 in St Michael’s Church Hall from 2pm to 5pm and are open to everyone.
Those interested in auditioning should email helensburghsavoy@gmail.com to be sent an application form which they must fill out before Sunday.
