A Helensburgh pipe band is celebrating its first competition success of 2023 after it came away with multiple prizes.
The Helensburgh Clan Colquhoun Pipe Band competed at the Gourock Highland Games on Sunday, May 14 where it won two cash prizes and a trophy.
The cash was awarded for placing fifth in the Open Section of the games and the Glasgow and West of Scotland category, while the trophy was awarded for the latter.
Secretary Colina Helen Campbell said: “The Helensburgh Clan Colquhoun Pipe Band successfully competed in the pipe band competition and won two prizes and a trophy.
“This was the first pipe band competition of the 2023 season and hopefully we can go on to have more success as the season progresses.
“The band competed in Grade 4B, coming fifth out of a total of 11 bands in both the Highland Games competition and the Glasgow and West of Scotland Pipe Band Championships.
“The band does a mixture of competitions and local events and is already booked for the Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games, Rhu Gala and Luss Highland Games.”
The band is currently gearing up to compete in the Scottish Pipe Band Championships at Dumbarton’s Levengrove Park on July 29 and the World Pipe Band Championships at Glasgow Green across August 18 and 19.
Away from competitions, each week in June the band will play in Helensburgh’s Colquhoun Square while in August, it will perform weekly in Drymen Square.
