HELENSBURGH groups are about £700 better off thanks to hungry residents enjoying a charity bake sale.

Helensburgh Community Hub hosted the "baking bonanza" to benefit their Dolly Parton Imagination Library along with Visiting Friends, Jean's Bothy, Helensburgh and Lomond Carers, Fun First, Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank, Helensburgh Amateur Swimming Club and The Dance Academy.

Organisers hailed the Big Community Bake Sale as a success.

Hub development manager Gill Simpson said: "It was fantastic to see so many people in the Hub and there was a wonderful atmosphere - how could there not be given how much cake was there.

"I was especially overwhelmed with the amount of support we had from people wanting to donate baking - what a great community spirit we have here ion Helensburgh.

"I also want to say a huge thank you to the staff at Tesco on Sinclair Street who gave our bakers free ingredients to make their creations, and to the Millig (Helensburgh) branch of the SWI who were utterly amazing in their baking support.

"The Hub's cake table was raising money to extend our Dolly Parton's Imagination Library book gifting programme and we will be doing more fundraising later this year including raffling a beautiful bespoke quilt made by some of the Hub crafters.

"And we are planning some kind of Dolly themed event so suggestions of what we could do are really welcome."
