PLANS to set up a new community food garden in Rhu and Shandon have been given a major boost from the National Lottery.
The Rhu and Shandon Community Centre is to receive £42,284 from the National Lottery Community Fund following an announcement last week.
The garden will host community activities for people of all ages, create volunteering opportunities and provide free access to fresh local produce.
The Rhu and Shandon group wasn’t the only Helensburgh and Lomond beneficiary in last week’s lotto funding announcement – Fun First will receive £7,425 to continue provision of its weekly fun sessions for pre-school children and their parents, while the Rosneath Peninsula West Community Development Trust will get £5,000 to help with the start-up costs for the Cove and Kilcreggan 10K Walk and Run event, taking place later this year.
