A Helensburgh woman will set off for Poland next week as she joins a charity’s efforts to support Ukrainian refugees.
Kathleen Young, who runs Fancy Fillings on West Clyde Street, will leave for All Hands on Hearts’ site in Jaroslaw on March 3.
The 55-year-old has been fundraising for her flights, train fare, and safety equipment.
On Saturday night, over £400 was donated at a fundraiser hosted by the Clyde Bar.
Kathleen said: “It’s impossible to take loads of stuff with me, 'cause I'm doing this alone, so it will be used to buy necessities for refugees, many of whom gave nothing but the clothes on their backs.
“I can’t wait to fly out and get started. I’m overwhelmed by everyone's kindness. I couldn't have done it without everyone's support.
“I promise you all I will put all of my heart and soul into hopefully helping the brave people of Ukraine, providing love and safety.”
All Hands on Hearts has been working in Poland since March 2022, after Russia invaded Ukraine.
The charity has supported the evacuation of more than 58,000 people, and provided 12 collection centres for children who have had to flee their homes.
Kathleen decided to apply to volunteer after turning 55 at Christmas in a bid to “do something worthwhile” with her life.
She will be sharing updates from her time in Poland on the Fancy Fillings Facebook page.
