The organisers of the Rosneath Highland Gathering have announced that the event will not return to the village this year.
It’s the fourth year in a row that the event will be missing from the local Highland Games calendar, having been cancelled due to Covid in 2020 and 2021 and financial uncertainty last year.
The Rosneath Gathering is usually held at Howie Park in mid-July and hosts competitions in Highland dancing, running, cycling, and heavy athletics - as well as a highly-regarded solo piping contest renowned for attracting entries from all over Scotland.
Funding has once again been cited as one of the reasons the Games will not go ahead this summer.
The news was shared on social media today (Wednesday).
In the post, the committee said: “Rosneath Highland Games committee regret that the games for this year (2023) have been cancelled due to a combination of loss of sponsorship, additional restrictions, increasing costs/expenditure including upfront costs required to run the Games.”
