A Helensburgh clothing store has announced it is to close in the coming months after being bought over by another fashion brand.
M&Co is set to close all of its 170 UK stores - including the Sinclair Street branch - around Easter, with almost 2,000 jobs set to be lost.
The Renfrewshire-based company has been bought by AK Retail Holdings, which owns brands such as Long Tall Sally and Yours Truly, but the sale did not include the store facilities.
M&Co appointed administrators for a second time in December 2022 – having also fallen into administration in August 2020.
The news was announced in social media posts by branches across the country over the weekend.
The posts read: “Unfortunately we haven't received the news we would have hoped for during our administration period, and would like to share this news with you.
"As we haven't received any funded, deliverable offers that would result in the transfer of the company's stores or staff to a potential buyer, this means that all of our stores will close.
"The M&Co 'Brand' has been purchased, but unfortunately this does not include a future for our stores, website or staff.
"We will trade all of our stores until Easter, and then begin the close down process. We will update you closer to the time, of our actual closing date.”
Helensburgh’s store confirmed on its Facebook page that gift cards will be accepted until Sunday, February 12.
The post said: “Can I please request your understanding in the matter of our closing down procedures.
"These decisions are not the decision of any manager or staff member in store and therefore we do not deserve any verbal abuse or anger.
"Whilst the majority of our wonderful customers have been so kind and thoughtful over the last few weeks there has been a number of people who have thought it acceptable to be rude and abusive to staff.
"We are all struggling daily to come to terms with the loss of our jobs.
"I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to the people of Helensburgh who have supported us over the decades and continue to do so until we close our doors. You have been wonderful.”
