Pupils from Hermitage Academy put in a strong performance at the recent final of the Scottish Rowing Schools Indoor League, securing second place overall.
A total of 16 pupils from the Helensburgh school took part in the event at Hutchesons’ Grammar School’s sports complex.
Schools from across Scotland were invited to take part in the league, which runs between September and November, with scores being submitted electronically.
Pupils who enter earn points towards their school’s total simply by taking part, with extra points being awarded for those who finish in the top five of their age category in each round.
George Watson’s College took the league title with 335 points, with Hermitage Academy coming second with 160 points.
The Glasgow Academy finished third on 91 points.
Hermitage’s Cerys Bowie won bronze in the S1 girls’ race, with Alice Cumming taking the silver medal in the S3 event.
Lance McMahon won silver in the boys’ S1 race, as well as silver in the S1 relay alongside Cerys, Mason McLellan, and Iona McGarry.
Indoor rowing has become very popular at the school in recent years thanks to the efforts of PE teacher Mr McAuley and LiveArgyll Active Schools coordinator, Martin Caldwell.
Mr McAuley said: “Hermitage has had some real success at the Scottish Rowing Schools Indoor events with some of the pupils achieving impressive results.
“It was great to see the Championships event return this year, attended by nearly 200 pupils from a number of different schools.
“A fantastic achievement by Hermitage Academy coming second school overall which makes all the hard work and organising worthwhile.”
