Helensburgh members of the West of Scotland Military Wives Choir have joined sister groups from across the UK and beyond for a special anniversary concert.

Led by Hillary David Wetton, the 120-strong choir from across the UK and Cyprus performed alongside an ensemble of live musicians featuring composer Sean Hargreaves and special guest artist Laura Wright at Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh.

The concert marked 10 years of the Military Wives Choir movement.

The group sang standout songs from the recent Military Wives film and other favourites from their albums A Thousand Years, Stronger Together, Home Thoughts from Abroad, Carry Me, and Brave.

They also performed a newly composed version of Caledonia, conducted by musical director Shona McKay.

Ailsa, one of the West of Scotland choir’s longest serving members, thanked Helensburgh’s business community for their support on they day.

She said: “We are so proud to be representing our community. The generosity of Helensburgh’s local businesses is amazing.

“We wanted to say a huge thankyou especially to the Deli in the Square, The Ginger Breadman and Nature’s Harvest for keeping us fed and fuelled throughout the event.”

The choir also performed at last month’s Remembrance Sunday service in Helensburgh during the wreath laying ceremony.

Caroline, chair of the choir, added: “The 10th anniversary concert truly show-cased the supportive network that the Military Wives Choirs has created through the power of singing

“Attending celebration events and the service of Remembrance gives us a chance to spread the word to other wives, sisters, daughters, and mothers of serving personnel and veterans of the valuable and supportive network our choir offers.”

“You will be pleased to hear we do not audition. Our choir is more than just singing; it is about being there for each other at times when we need support the most.”

Those interested in finding out more about the choir are welcome to attend the group’s rehearsals at Drumfork Community Centre on Mondays at 6.30pm.
