A Helensburgh dancer has won a top award in recognition of a hugely successful competition season.

Eilidh Gammons, 14, won the juvenile age group at the Royal Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing’s UK Champion of Champions event, known as the ‘Oscars’.

The winner of the accolade is decided based on results from competitions which have taken place over the last year.

The Hermitage Academy pupil secured the prize after winning 22 championship titles this year, as well as four premiership wins.

Eilidh, of the Margaret Rose School of Dance, was also runner-up in the juvenile world championship, which was held at Cowal Gathering in August.

Her achievements were celebrated at the RSOBHD presentation night at the Marriott Hotel in Edinburgh on November 19.

Teacher Margaret MacInnes said: “Eilidh is the perfect student - never misses a class, always works hard, and is the most humble, caring young lady who is an asset to our school.

“Eilidh has so much patience with the younger dancers who all look up to her and strive to be like her.”

After receiving her award at the Oscars, Eilidh went on to win the British Association of Teachers of Dancing’s senior Highland scholarship on Saturday, November 26.

The school was also represented by Isla Flint, who finished fourth in the same event.

The contest, which was held in Paisley, saw nominated dancers take part in a judged masterclass, a dance theory test paper, and a solo choreography competition.
