A Shandon hockey player has been named in the Great Britain squad set to take on Argentina and the Netherlands this month.
Fiona Burnet is one of a 19-strong women’s side headed for Argentina as the new FIH Pro League season gets under way.
Both Fiona and fellow Scot Jen Eadie are hoping to make their GB debut at the mini-tournament, with each player having close to 80 caps for Scotland.
Fiona, who plays her club hockey for Wimbledon, made her Commonwealth Games debut for Scotland in Birmingham in July this year.
She was also named as one of six key players in an initiative which aims to see Scotland’s women secure a top 10 place in the world rankings.
GB women’s head coach David Ralph said: “Representing Great Britain is the pinnacle of the sport and congratulations to everyone selected.
“For those in line to win their first cap this is a hugely significant moment and well done to them for getting to this level.
“Taking on the number one and two teams in the world is a fantastic challenge for our group and these are our first competitive matches as GB in this cycle.
“It’s a new venue for us in Santiago del Estero and we can’t wait to get going.”
The squad will face the Netherlands on Tuesday, December 13, followed by Argentina on Thursday, December 15.
GB’s women will take on the Netherlands for a second time on Friday, December 16, closing the campaign against Argentina on Sunday, December 18.
Face-off for all fixtures is at 10pm (GMT), and all GB games will be shown live on BT Sport.
Following these games, the squad’s attention will turn to its next mini-tournament in April 2023, where they will face Australia and New Zealand in Christchurch.
