There was fun for people of all ages at Drumfork Community Centre last weekend at its family games day.

Hosted by charity Males and Females Tales, the event saw members of the community invited to enjoy a range of fun activities.

A total of 64 children and adults attended the session.

Admission to the event was free thanks to funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, the Submarine Family, and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.

The fun day was organised by the charity in a bid to encourage people to get out and about, and mixing with others.

John Lewis, founder of Males Tales, said: “We’re a mental health support group, but we’re now trying to be proactive rather than reactive.

“The whole idea was to get people out their house and get them socialising to help overcome come of that social anxiety that Covid may have caused.”

Shelley Gilmour, manager at Drumfork Community Centre, added: “The feedback was very positive and highlights were that it was good to spend time meeting new people and playing games with family members and friends.

“Not to mention meeting our very special guest, The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity Mascot, Nelson the Sailor Cat!

“We had a great range of games for all ages, from playing cards, chess and operation to jenga, Oculus and Nintendo Switch. There was a great variety for all.”

Males and Females Tales hopes to run more sessions like this at the centre in the future.

The charity is also keen to hear from anyone who would like to support its work by volunteering. Those interested should contact malestales@yahoo.com.
