Only the brave play in marginal winter weather conditions - and that's what faced competitors in week two of Helensburgh Golf Club's Tennents Winter League on October 9.
Organisers took the decision to send out the 96 players on a reduced course of 11 holes in the hope they would complete their round before it became unplayable.
As it turned out, this was the right decision as the field completed the programme, albeit in wet and cold conditions. Solace was sought in the club house with a change of clothes and a hot drink.
In general, the field rose to the challenging conditions presented and returned very respectful scores on the day. Standing alone with 27 points were the winning pair, Paul Duerden and Stuart Leach. They were presented with their prizes at the prize-giving later in the afternoon.
In second place were Mark Tynan and Yuen Hawes on 26 points, while George Cairns and Lou Carrier were third.
Only four x2s were achieved, Gordon McConnelll, Alan Blackstock, Andy Donald and Stuart Leach. All x2s were recorded at the ninth hole and they were rewarded with 12 Titleist Velocity balls for each x2.
The other prizes - pro shop raffle, Lotto bonus ball and score card draw - were also given out to the winners at the club-house prize-giving.
All the players look forward to week three of the competition in the hope that much improved weather conditions will be experienced on the day.
