Stuart Latimer held his nerve over the closing holes to secure the silverware in the Senior Midweek Medal final at Helensburgh Golf Club.
A field of 39 players took part, with all the monthly winners competing for the overall prize – and after a steady first nine holes, birdies at the 12th and 14th put Stuart in the driving seat to take the trophy.
Despite dropping a couple of shots to par on the last hole, Stuart finished ahead of the chasing pack with 40 stableford points.
Jon Simmons returned the best score on the day with 43 points: he was not one of the medal finalists, but he did head home with the consolation of knowing that his score will give him a place in the 2023 final.
Elsewhere, Robin Gall’s great season in the club’s knockout competition saw him win no fewer than three trophies.
He secured the Clarendon Cup with a convincing 6 and 4 win over Wyllie Robertson in the final of the tournament, for gents over the age of 55, and partnered Jim Lillburn in the final of the Antiquary Cup.
This competition is reserved for gents over the age of 69, and Robin and Jim built a good lead against David Graham and Colin Reid in the early stages of the final.
David and Colin rallied on the back nine, but Robin and Jim were too strong and closed out the match on the 16th hole.
Robin’s hat-trick of wins was completed with victory in the Chivas Trophy pairs competition for gents aged over 55; this time he partnered Graeme Biggar to a 4 and 3 win over Jon Simmons and Stewart McNeill.
