Helensburgh Parish Church’s next fundraising effort for Ukraine will be held next weekend.
A choir and string ensemble will combine to present a programme of songs and music at the church on Sunday, September 18 at 7pm.
The Friendship Choir, formed in 2010, is composed of like-minded singers from Helensburgh and Sollerön in Sweden and is led by local musical director David Bruce.
Together they have completed 10 tours across Europe to raise funds for relevant charities which are local to the performance venue.
The choir set to perform at the event will be mainly made up of
Helensburgh-based singers, but four Swedish members will fly in to join the efforts.
A selection of Scottish and Swedish songs will be performed, as well as “Songs of Sentiment” by Derek Clark and his organ and string ensemble.
Two main themes will run throughout the concert: freedom and friendship.
Anna Tkachenko, who arrived in Cardross with her family in April, will help with the pronunciation of two Ukrainian pieces at the event.
The parish church has held several fund-raisers for Ukraine over the past few months, raising more than £11,000 through an internal collection with a and a further £1,700 during a street collection with the town’s other churches.
Admission to the concert is free, with donations appreciated.
