An annual open water swimming event to be hosted in Loch Lomond is to return this weekend for one day only.
The Loch Lomond Steamship Company will be joining in with the Go Swim celebrations by having the 1902 Winch House ‘in- steam’ for the day on Saturday, September 3.
The slipway museum will also be open for the occasion where visitors in Helensburgh and Lomond will have an opportunity to experience traditional Scottish industrial and maritime heritage.
Wild Highlands Pier Café in Balloch will be open for refreshments throughout the event - as it is the best opportunity to see the swimmers take the plunge - and have announced that there will be a new selection of cakes available from a local bakehouse.
Half price one hour hard hat tours on board the Maid of the Loch will be on offer from 11am-4pm to visitors, organisers and swimmers.
Keen swimmers are also welcome to sign up to participate in any of the length challenges by visiting go-swim.uk/the-swims and will include a finisher’s medal, t-shirt and swim cap.
The following Saturday (September 10) the Chariots of Steam model ship exhibition on the Maid of the Loch will be open to visitors for free from 10am-4pm as part of West Dunbartonshire’s annual Doors Open Days where historic buildings and cultural venues open their doors to the public at no cost.
The exhibition ends at the beginning of November and the Knightswood model boating club sailing alongside the old paddle steamer for the event makes it a great family day out.
