PEOPLE in Helensburgh have been thanked for donating more than £1,700 towards the Ukraine relief effort.
As reported in the Advertiser last week, a group of volunteers from church congregations in the town hit the streets on Saturday for a bucket collection, with the funds raised going to the work of the Edinburgh Direct Aid charity with communities near the front line following Russia’s invasion earlier this year.
A total of £1,224.58 was donated on Saturday – and, added to the proceeds of a collection at the town’s Morrisons supermarket on August 6, makes a grand total of £1,725.18.
Almost 40 volunteers took part in the donation campaign, with one saying: “I was so glad to be part of Saturday street collection and so proud of our town. We ask a lot and to come up with that result is just wonderful.”
