Trains between Helensburgh and Dumbarton were disrupted on Thursday afternoon after reports were received of trespassers on the railway.

ScotRail announced on social media that they had received reports of trespassers on the line between Dalreoch and Cardross.

They announced that train services between Edinburgh and Helensburgh Central via Airdrie would be delayed or terminated and started back from Dumbarton Central.

One social media user in the area reported that police, coastguard and ambulance personnel wee in attendance at the railway near Craigend Nursery, to the east of Cardross.

It was later revealed that a ScotRail driver had stopped his train to help after spotting two people in the Firth of Clyde near the village, and that police, ambulance, coastguard and RNLI personnel had been called to the scene.

ScotRail announced shortly before 5pm on Thursday that services were beginning to return to normal.

Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
