The people of Cove and Kilcreggan celebrated the Jubilee weekend in style, starting with the lighting of the beacon at Cove Burgh Hall on Thursday evening.
Three choirs united to sing for the lighting of the beacon - Tartan Harmony, the Dorian Choir and the Peninsula Choir under the direction of Moira Fritz Williams and Sian Elizabeth Winstanley.
They sang ‘A Life Lived with Grace’, written for the Queen’s Jubilee and performed at the lighting of beacons throughout UK and the Commonwealth.
The choirs’ short concert, held outside Cove Burgh Hall, also featured performances of ‘Harbour’, from the visiting choirs and ‘Tebyeh Poyem’ by the Peninsula Choir, both for Ukraine.
On Saturday some 50 residents of all ages joined a parade from the centre of Kilcreggan to Craigrownie Park in Cove for a jubilee picnic and were joined there by around 70 others.
Frazer Smith organised races, Beat the Goalie and Welly Wanging contests, with Alex Miles, Emma Miles and Patrick O’Toole crowned winners of the male, female and children’s competitions respectively.
Cove Park were encouraging those taking part in the bright sunshine to make seed bombs, plant up planters and make sun pictures. They also cut out and planted flowers in the shape of the words ‘Ice Cream’, with the help of some of the youngsters.
Teas and home baking were served inside and outside the church where an exhibition of photos showing the village’s celebrations of the Queen’s coronation in 1953 proved particularly fascinating.
