A SINGALONG concert for charity led by a group of local ukulele players will be held in Helensburgh Parish Church next week.
The concert, at Helensburgh Parish Church’s halls complex, The Bridge, is being organised to raise money to buy life-saving medical supplies being taken to the war zone in eastern Ukraine.
Music at the event will be provided by Rhukulele and their leader Louise Burnet, who organised a similar concert in the Rhu and Shandon Community Centre earlier this year under the banner of ‘Sing For Ukraine’ - which raised a whopping £1,220 for the fund.
The overall target of the fund, however, is £15,000, and it’s hoped that next week’s concert will provide a further boost to the local fund-raising effort.
The concert takes place on Thursday, June 9, beginning at 11.45am, with doors opening at 11.30am, with entry by way of a suggested donation of £10 at the door.
And if you’re worried that you might not know all the words, feat not, because songsheets will be handed out at the door to enable all those present to join in a programme which will feature plenty of well-known songs from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
Louise said: “There are nine or 10 brave volunteer drivers who have been driving out to the Polish/Ukraine border to deliver the medical supplies.
“It is desperately sad that the war continues but we can all help to save lives by raising funds for these much needed medical supplies.
“We hope for a big turnout on June 9, and we will all sing our hearts out for Ukraine and hopefully help to save a few lives at the same time.”
The massive operation is being led by Louise’s friend Anne Varvill, who works as a nurse and who has set up an online crowdfunder for donations to the cause.
If you’re unable to attend next Thursday’s singalong, but would still like to make a contribution to the appeal, you can do so online at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/anne-varvill.
