HOME players filled the podium in Helensburgh Golf Club’s first open competition of the season - the Senior Mixed Rowebowl.
Steve and Denise Donald won the prize with 41 stableford points, two ahead of past captain Ian Shields and his partner Babs Robertson, while Don Griffin and Anne Riding came third with 37 points.
Denise is a recently retired head teacher and is clearly putting her extra leisure time to good use.
The leading visiting pair were Jim and Margaret Gallagher from Innellan, who came fourth with 36 points.
Elsewhere on the Helensburgh competition calendar, Neil Sloan won the Crawford Lochhead Trophy, edging out runner up Alan Raleigh. Both scored 43 stableford points but Neil’s gross 40 in his second nine, including three pars in his last four holes, secured the win.
Craig Stirling won the first class of the May Ormond Medal with a net 68, while Colin Reid won the second class and Euan Fraser the third, each scoring net 66.
Graeme Proud’s net 67 won him the first class section of the Anderson Medal; Alan Rankin took the second class honours with a net 69, and Dougie Stewart the third class with a net 71.
