A MAN who hid a recording device in his home near Helensburgh in a bid to monitor his partner has been banned from contacting her for two years.

Scott Clark, 53, previously pleaded guilty to behaving in a manner likely to cause a person fear or alarm by hiding a recording device in the property in Rhu to listen to her calls.

The offence was aggravated by being against his then partner when it took place between September 17 and 25, 2020.

Clark, now of Sutherland Close, Pollokshields, returned to Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week for sentencing.

A community payback order (CPO) was imposed, with Clark to be supervised by social workers for 15 months, and a non-harassment order was issued to protect his victim from any contact.

Sheriff William Gallacher had deferred sentence in December so Clark could be considered for the Caledonian Programme – for men convicted of domestic abuse offences – but that was not ordered last week.

During the previous hearing, the court was told Clark had a desire “for some sort of remediation to take place”.

His residence in Glasgow means the CPO will be transferred to the city’s social work department.
