INSPECTORS say they have no concerns over the welfare of a flock of chickens alleged to be living in “stinking, filthy conditions” on a Rhu farm.
The Scottish SPCA visited Aldonaig farm earlier this month to follow up on claims of alleged animal abandonment at the site.
A source told the Advertiser that between 20 and 30 chickens had been living in poor conditions on the land “for most of their lives, often without food or water” and the situation had been reported to the animal welfare charity for nearly two years.
After checking on the chickens recently, the source said: “All they appear to have to eat is naan bread.
“There is filthy water in a couple of containers but no fresh water.”
Scottish SPCA inspector, Jen Connolly, said: “I can confirm we attended Aldonaig Farm after a report to our helpline of neglected chickens at the property.
“Advice was issued to the owner which was followed.
“All chickens had food, water and shelter, and there was no concern for their welfare.
“If anyone is concerned about an animal, please call our helpline on 03000 999 999.”
