AN OUTDOOR swimmer who conquered Loch Lomond in a fund-raising challenge earlier this year has handed over a cheque worth more than £3,000 to a local lifesaving charity.

Nicky Graham presented the total to volunteers of the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat (LLRB) team on Sunday following her successful August swim.

The Edinburgh woman swam the length of the loch - 21.6 miles - in 16 hours and 27 minutes, crawling onto the shore at Ardlui after what she described as her “hardest swim yet”.

She visited members of the crew at their base in Luss to hand over a cheque for £3,330.52.

A post on the LLRB Facebook page said: “This incredible donation is invaluable in helping keep the boat operational especially during the busy summer period.

“Massive thanks to Nicky and her team for choosing LLRB to receive this amazing donation and it was a pleasure meeting you.”

In August we reported how Nicky had opted to take on the challenge after reading about the rescue boat crew's efforts to help when four people drowned in the loch on a single weekend in July.

She took to the water in Balloch at 5.10am on Tuesday, August 10 and reached the north end of the loch at 9.37pm.

Her efforts brought in £1,787 by the end of that month, but the total had nearly doubled by the time the cheque was presented on Sunday.
