CHRISTIAN Aid supporters in Helensburgh have boosted the charity’s coffers by more than £750 following a successful afternoon tea event in the town.
Friday’s event, which included music from Jim and Anne Binne, at Helensburgh Parish Church’s main hall, was the first indoor fund-raiser to be held in the town for the organisation since the pandemic, and although numbers were still restricted for Covid safety reasons there was an excellent turnout for the good cause.
A spokesperson for the organisers said: “We were so grateful to all our volunteers, and for the donation of a hamper from Morrisons Helensburgh and sandwiches provided by the Deli in the Square.
“We were sad that some people were unable to come because the number was restricted to 70 due to Covid safety.

“However this was still the largest gathering we have had in 18 months in the building, and people were glad to see old friends and catch up on news.
“We were glad to have been able to organise a successful and safe event and look forward to more Christian Aid events next year.”
As the event was held during Climate Fringe Week, it focused on the work Christian Aid does to help build reliance for communities under threat from climate change, and included a display of the charity’s work in Bolivia over the last 30 years.
A total of £754.52 was raised on the day.
