THERE'LL be no repeat of Gordon Reid's 2016 singles glory at this year's Tokyo Paralympics – but the Helensburgh wheelchair tennis hero remains in with a shout of two medals in Japan.
The former Hermitage Academy pupil, who will line up in the men's doubles final on Friday alongside fellow Brit Alfie Hewett, took on top seed, and host nation favourite, Shingo Kunieda in the last four of the singles in the early hours of Thursday, UK time.
But after staging a superb fightback on Wednesday to defeat Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez and make it into the last four, Reid, the competition's fifth seed, who beat Hewett in the Rio singles final five years ago didn't have quite enough left in the tank to overcome world number one Kunieda, who triumphed 6-3, 6-2 on centre court at the Ariake Tennis Centre.
Reid will now play his fellow Brit in the bronze medal match on Saturday after Hewett lost 6-4 7-6 (5) to Tom Egberink of the Netherlands in Thursday's other semi-final.
Reid and Hewett, who have triumphed in the last seven Grand Slam tournaments they've played together, take on France's Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer in Friday's doubles final – a repeat of the Rio gold medal match five years ago, in which the French pair won 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
