MEMBERS of a local outdoors group will celebrate a “major achievement” next month with the opening of a new footbridge near Arrochar.
The Helensburgh and District Access Trust (HADAT) will welcome the completion of the structure across the Tighness burn with a public event on Monday, September 13.
Improvement works began around a year ago at the site, which forms part of the popular Three Lochs Way long-distance walking route.
The project, filling a ‘missing link’ at the northern end of the Way, was funded by NatureScot and Luss Estates, both of whom will be represented at the event, as well as by the Hannah Stirling Loch Lomond Trust.

HADAT convener John Urquhart said: “The bridge has long been on the Access Trust’s to-do list and its completion is a major achievement for us.”
Members of the public are welcome to attend; they are invited to gather at the new bridge for a brief opening ceremony next month, walking from Arrochar Parish Church and following Three Lochs Way signs to the location.
Proceedings will begin at 10.30am and the ceremony is estimated to take around an hour in total.
Mr Urquhart added: “The bridge was designed by Dr Geoff Freedman of Rural Bridges and was constructed by Robert McKendry and it is hoped both will be able to attend.”
