RHU sailor Charlotte Dobson has made the best possible start to her bid for Olympic glory in Japan.
Dobson and her crewmate Saskia Tidey won the first two races in the 49erFX series at Enoshima on Tuesday.
And though they could only manage sixth in the third race of the series, their total of eight points from the first day’s racing sees them sit proudly at the top of the leaderboard going into races four, five and six at Sagami on Wednesday.
The Team GB pair finished ahead of Spain’s Tamara Echegoyen Dominguez and Paula Barcelo Martin in race one, with Stephanie Roble and Maggie Shea of the USA in third.
Race two saw Roble and Shea finish second ahead of Belgium’s Isaura Maenhaut van Lemberge and Anouk Geurts, with the Spanish pair dropping to tenth from second in race one.
The third race of the day was won by Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze of Brazil, with Annemiek Bekkering and Annette Duets of the Netherlands second and the Danish pair of Ida Marie Baad Nielsen and Marie Thusgaard Olsen third.
Races 7-9 in the series are at Kamakura on Friday, with the same venue hosting races 10-12 on Saturday.
The medal race is back at Enoshima on Monday, August 2.
As well as races 4-6 in the 49erFX series, Wednesday also sees Shandon's Anna Burnet and her sailing partner John Gimson begin their bid to qualify for the Nacra 17 medal race, while Rhu's Luke Patience and his partner Chris Grube do likewise on Wednesday in the men's 470 class.
