IF you can’t quite remember when to put your bins out, you can now get the answer by asking Alexa.
Argyll and Bute Council has added a new function to its presence on the Amazon Alexa app which will enable people in Helensburgh and Lomond – and across the local authority area – to use the device to check when their next general waste, recycling, glass or food waste collection is due.
Alexa won’t be replacing the council’s existing online bin calendar, which can be checked and downloaded at the local authority’s website – but the council says the introduction of the new facility is “part of [its] ongoing commitment to delivering new and useful digital services”.

A council spokesperson said: “We will be adding other council-related information to the service over the next year.”
You’ll need an Amazon account and a smartphone, tablet or Amazon Alexa device to make use of the service.
If you don’t already have an Alexa device, go to the Apple store or Google Play store on your device, search for the Amazon Alexa app and tap ‘install’.
Once the app is installed and you’ve logged in using your Amazon username and password, click on the ‘browse skills’ option, search for ‘Argyll and Bute Council’ and click Enable.
