A WEST Scotland MSP has become the first Indian Sikh to be sworn into the Scottish Parliament.
Pam Gosal made history alongside Kaukab Stewart at the weekend by becoming the first two women of colour to become Members of the Scottish Parliament.
And Ms Gosal, 49, of the Scottish Conservatives, today took the oath at Holyrood, reciting the Mool Mantar - a Sikh prayer.
Pam then took her blessings from the Sikh Scriptures, the Gutka Sahib.
It was the first time a parliamentarian across the UK has read from the Sikh scriptures inside Parliament.

Commenting on the momentous occasion, Ms Gosal said: “Today is a moment of pride not only for myself and my family but the whole Sikh community and for the Scottish Parliament.
“Reciting the Sikh prayer before taking my oath was important to me and I hope today will show that many young people who relate to me will one day believe they can join me in Parliament.”
Ms Gosal was one of seven list MSPs elected for West Scotland last week, with Russell Findlay and Jamie Greene (both Conservatives), Neil Bibby, Katy Clark and Paul O'Kane (all Labour), and Ross Greer (Scottish Greens) also representing the region, which covers Helensburgh and Lomond.
