POLICE in Helensburgh are asking local householders to check their homes, gardens and sheds are secure following reports of thefts from two properties in Rhu.

Officers received a report of a battery having allegedly been stolen from a ride-on lawnmower in the village, while knowledge of that incident caused a second Rhu resident to report the theft of a chainsaw from the same general area.

Both items are believed to have been stolen from outbuildings during the week from February 12 to February 19, and police enquiries are ongoing.

Inspector Roddy MacNeill from Police Scotland in Helensburgh said: “Given the time of year I would ask that people review their garden and house security.

“Please ensure any hasp locks are sufficient, that any outside lights are in good working order, and that any items of value are stored appropriately – and also that all outbuildings are re-secured after use.

“Please report any suspicious activity, persons or vehicles to the police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
