A LOCAL GP practice has issued a firm warning to patients to be alert to "despicable" scammers attempting to exploit vulnerable people waiting for their Covid vaccination.

A post shared on Kilcreggan Medical Centre's Facebook page last Friday said a patient received a phone call from a man claiming to be from the NHS who asked her about her coronavirus vaccine jag.

The fraudulent caller said he would be visiting the woman's home in two weeks to administer the second dose of the vaccine, which the medical centre branded "an absolute scam".

The social media update said: "He [the caller] also mentioned she [the patient] should drink plenty of honey and water and was going to send her some tablets to take.

"Please don't listen to these people! Patients registered at Kilcreggan who have had, or will have, their first vaccination administered by the team at the surgery will have their second from the surgery too.

"These 'scammers' are becoming more and more inventive, it is totally despicable and beyond belief that they are using the pandemic to try and steal your money. But they are, so we have to all be alert to this possibility.

"If you receive a call about anything Covid-related from someone you are unsure about, please phone us at the surgery and we can reassure you.

"Please don't ever give your address or bank details to anyone offering you vaccines, pills or anything else."
