IT'S considered by many to be the most scenic rail journey in the world, and now armchair admirers can sit back and enjoy it from the comfort of their own home.
Some of Helensburgh and Lomond's most spectacular scenery has been caught on camera from the point of view of a train driver on the famed West Highland Line.
In a set of videos published by ScotRail on its YouTube channel Helensburgh, Garelochhead, Arrochar, Tarbet and Ardlui feature as viewers virtually travel from the hustle and bustle of Glasgow to peaceful and picturesque Mallaig at the end of the line.
Taking in the enchanting Glenfinnan viaduct, used for the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter movie series, as well as the remote wilderness of Rannoch Moor and up to Fort William, the full route takes five and a half hours to complete.
The Cobbler in Arrochar is another notable highlight, along with Britain's highest peak, Ben Nevis and the tour is now available for anyone to watch online.
Alasdair Smart, ScotRail tourism manager, said: “These videos are a wonderful way for people to savour the magic of the West Highland Line, reckoned by many to be the most beautiful rail journey in the world.
“We hope everyone loves watching the footage and that they are inspired to make the actual trip when everything gets back to some sort of normality.”
