A HELENSBURGH man is paying back the kindness shown to him by the community after a brain injury, and is helping the homeless.
Colin Fitzpatrick suffered head injuries which now affect his speech, balance and short-term memory – but still continues on throughout the coronavirus pandemic to do his bit for those worse off in life.
He is also a member of the Males Tales men's mental health group in the town – and has joined forces with others in the group to gather up donations of warm clothes for people without a home this winter.
Colin praised the group, and the residents of Helensburgh, for their support for the scheme.
When the most recent round of donations is complete, Colin will travel to Glasgow with other Males Tales volunteers to distribute the donations.

“It’s just all about giving it back, I’ve been fortunate to have people around me to support me.” Colin told the Advertiser.
“And with these restrictions we’re all getting hit with, there’s people out there who don’t have the opportunities because they don’t have a home.
“I spoke to quite a lot of the guys on the street and they were saying they don’t go to shelters because of the amount of drugs. They were staying out in the street. I love to just help others.”
Colin also used Facebook to gather what’s needed, which has enabled scores of people eager to help out with donations.

He continued: “This activity has successfully pulled the Helensburgh community together. I never thought I would have been having all this reaction.
“I would like to thank a number of parties who have made this happen and the most important people are our volunteers and everyone who’s donated thus far.
“We’d also like to thank David and his team at the Drumfork Centre and, Morrisons for their generous offer to supply hygiene items and chocolate.
“Then there’s all the people who’ve shared my posts to increase the online advertising and finally the group whom I’m proud to be a member of, Males Tales, as they will be instrumental in getting these gifts to the homeless.”
