WORK is set to be carried out on a dangerous building which has forced the closure of a stretch of road in Helensburgh – but there is no indication yet of when the route may re-open.
Argyll and Bute Council has confirmed that it will begin work on Monday, November 9 to stabilise the dangerous building on East Clyde Street, between its junctions with Sinclair Street and Maitland Street.
A drone survey is also part of the action planned by the local authority, who have also said that the route will remain closed until the work is complete.
The council said: “Following a structural engineer’s report, the council will carry out works on Monday, November 9 to stabilise the dangerous building on East Clyde Street, Helensburgh. The work will reduce potential risk of further collapse.
“We have also commissioned a drone-survey to provide more detailed information. We have advised the owners of the intended works and we will pursue recovery of costs along with a commitment to repair the building.
“In the interest of public safety, the road/footpath and immediate area will remain closed until the work is complete.”
The stretch of the road has been closed since Saturday, October 31, when high winds led to parts of stonework falling from the building.
It has also been closed for lengthy periods in the past due to concerns over the state of the building.
