COVE Burgh Hall is keeping up with the times after a new electric vehicle charging point was installed in the village venue’s car park.

Peninsula drivers will be able to make use of the recharge station thanks to an £18,000 grant from the Energy Savings Trust, covering installation and maintenance.

The hall’s re-opening following the easing of coronavirus lockdown restrictions has been postponed due to the recent outbreak of cases in the Kilcreggan area, however, the addition of the charging point is the latest positive step in the venue’s refurbishment.

A post on the Cove Burgh Hall website said: “Driving by the hall, the eagle-eyed will have spotted a newcomer to the car park.

“No doubt you will have instantly identified it as a 22kW Dual BP Chargemaster electric vehicle charge point!

“When fully commissioned, it will become part of the Charge Place Scotland (chargeplacescotland.org) which is the national EV charging network owned and developed by the Scottish Government.

“Quite an innovation for the hall, responding to the rapidly growing electric car market.

“For example, registrations of pure-electric vehicles in the first seven months of 2020 are up 112 per cent compared to 2019.

“With the trend expected to accelerate, it is hoped that this public amenity will benefit both the community and passing traffic.

“In addition, the charge point may generate a modest income towards funds much needed to protect Cove Burgh Hall’s heritage, and keep it going on a day-to-day basis.

“It is a good example of ‘futuristic’ and ‘historic’ working in partnership.”
