PARENTS of pupils at Hermitage Academy have been urged to “remain calm” after two positive cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this week.
In a letter from NHS Highland’s health protection team to parents on Monday, August 31, an S2 and an S4 student at the Helensburgh secondary school were revealed to have confirmed coronavirus.
Health chiefs said the two affected pupils were last in school on Friday, August 28.
Kathleen Daly, vice chair of the school’s parent council, said: “As a parent council we are fully supportive of the school and the measures that have been taken in response to the positive cases of Covid-19 that have been confirmed for two pupils.

“Understandably, parents are concerned and we are in communication with the school and have shared any concerns highlighted to us.
“Official communication has been forwarded by the school from NHS Highland and we would also like to refer parents to the FAQs that were issued by [head teacher] Mr Williamson on Friday as that may answer a number of questions parents have.
“If parents still have questions then please contact the school directly.
“Test and Protect are contacting parents with further information where close contact has been established and any action is required.
“This is a sensitive topic that people have strong feelings about and we would urge people to try to remain calm and refer to NHS guidelines regarding whether a test is required or not and to be mindful of others when posting to social media.”

The letter to parents, which was published in full on Argyll and Bute Council’s website on Monday evening, states: “We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with the head teacher and education service colleagues in Argyll and Bute Council.
“Contact tracing is ongoing and all close contacts of both confirmed cases are being identified.
“These pupils who have had close contact will be contacted directly and advised to isolate at home for 14 days.
“The school remains open and all other pupils should continue to attend if they remain well.
“If your child remains well then there is no need for them to be tested for Covid-19.”
