HEAVY rain has closed the main road between Helensburgh and Faslane and flooded residents' gardens after causing a nearby burn to burst its banks.
The A814 was shut at the north end of Shandon, near the Faslane peace camp, on Tuesday afternoon after flooding left the road impassable.
Reader Andrew Smith, who lives at Oakbank in Shandon, close to the point of the worst flooding, said a burn had burst its banks above the village, near the West Highland railway line between Helensburgh Upper and Garelochhead.
Mr Smith said: "The drains are blocked near the railway line and everything has burst.

"Water has flooded out and down the hill towards the Faslane peace camp. My garden is under three feet of water."
Local bus firm Wilson's of Rhu said in a Facebook post that the route of their 316 bus service, which serves Helensburgh, Garelochhead, Rosneath, Kilcreggan and Coulport, was "horrendously flooded at various locations" and the road at Faslane was "closed for the foreseeable future".
Traffic between Helensburgh and Garelochhead was diverted via the A817 Haul Road.

Other social media posts described how the River Fruin had burst its banks and showed pictures of flooding on the A82 between Dumbarton and the Erskine Bridge, as well as the closed section of the A814 near the southern entrance to HM Naval Base Clyde.
As well as a landslip closing the West Highland rail line between Helensburgh and Garelochhead, the A83 has also been shut for the same reason east of the Rest and Be Thankful.
ScotRail also cancelled trains to and from Helensburgh Central because of flooding.
