A CHARITY’S army of volunteers who offer support to vulnerable people in Helensburgh and Lomond amid the coronavirus crisis have been praised by a local MSP.
Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland is working to match locals with one of its team of more than 4,000 volunteers, who can offer support and make sure clients stay safe and well in their homes by taking part in regular phone calls and practical help, such as shopping, collecting medication, or even dog-walking.
Maurice Golden, Conservative MSP for the west of Scotland, has praised the charity’s efforts. He said: “This will provide absolutely invaluable support to those who need it most and something simple like a phone call will go a long way to improving people’s mental health.

“Practical support through getting vital supplies like food and medicine will ensure people know that charities like CHSS are on hand to support them.
“I congratulate everyone involved in volunteering and know this is welcomed by residents and communities across the west of Scotland.”
Jane-Claire Judson, chief executive at Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland, added: “We have been overwhelmed by the amazing response we have had from volunteers who want to help people.
“If you need help with anything from your shopping to simply chatting to someone over the phone, we are here for you.
