HEALTH and care staff in Helensburgh and Lomond received a welcome gift this week - in the shape of a rainbow cake dedicated to NHS workers.
The delicious donation was made by eight-year-old Alexis Hope Whiting on Monday after her brilliantly baked creation was picked as the winner of a competition run by local tearoom owner Melanie Andrews.
Melanie, who runs the Craigard Tearoom in Sinclair Street, had a bright idea to launch a social media search last week to find the best entry from young bakers for the rainbow-inspired challenge.

Alexis visited the Victoria Integrated Care Centre in town on Monday to present her winning entry to staff.
Melanie told the Advertiser: “After a very hard decision our winner of the NHS cake donation competition is Alexis.
“I felt this cake epitomised all that I wanted to say about our NHS and the colours and lines on the rainbow were excellent, 10 out of 10 for originality and creativity.
“Love the model sculpture on the top. Congratulations Alexis.”
Keen baker Alexis also made Easter biscuits and lollipops for her friends during lockdown which were delivered by her dad.
Alexis's mum Lynn said her daughter would’ve happily donated her rainbow cake to the key workers at the VICC even if she hadn’t won, “so that they had a nice treat to help them through their hard working day”.
