A FORMER Lomond School pupil has been voted ‘Student of the Year’ by the National Union of Students (NUS).

Ross Leven, who is now studying international business management at Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen and is vice-president of the RGU students’ union, was rewarded for his outstanding efforts and achievements at this year’s NUS Scotland Awards.

Ross, who was also recently elected as Student President for the upcoming academic year, said: “I’m delighted to have been recognised at the NUS Scotland Awards.

“I’m incredibly grateful to work with the amazing team at RGU Union. None of the work that we do as students would be possible without their support.”

Johanna Urquhart, principal at Lomond School, said: “It’s terrific to hear of Ross’s success at Robert Gordon, both in his election as president of the union and in being awarded the NUS Student of the Year. Neither really come as a surprise.

“As a pupil at Lomond, Ross always displayed a very strong sense of community and service to others.

“He was very committed to his own studies but also to the life of the school through sport, house events and as a peer mentor. I’m delighted he has further developed his interest in helping others and that it has been recognised nationally.”
